Student Scholarships

Alumni show their support for bringing the best and brightest to the University through awarding scholarship dollars to new and continuing students.

The Association and 64 individual alumni clubs each year award more than 80 scholarships to students totaling more than $110,000. In addition scholarship students are honored at an annual event.

Great Teachers Recognized

Six excellent University of Kentucky faculty members are honored during the annual celebration of the Great Teacher Awards, presented during ceremonies each spring, through the cooperation and participation of two student organizations, Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board. The awards are the oldest such awards on campus, having been continuously given for more than 40 years. It is the only campus-wide teacher award program in which all nominations must come from students.

Homecoming and Reunions

Thousands of alumni return to the Lexington campus each year to enjoy Homecoming festivities. Highlights include a Parade Watch Party at the King Alumni House on Homecoming eve and a large tent party just before game time.

The Golden Wildcats Society annually welcomes those alumni who are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation to its corps. Graduates return for an open house at the King Alumni House on Homecoming eve, enjoy campus tours and then get re-acquainted with classmates during a reception and dinner in the Student Center Ballroom.

Alumni Volunteer Awards

The highest annual award given by the Association is the Alumni Service Award, presented to several alumni and one non-alumni member each year.

King Alumni House Open for Business and Pleasure

The elegant Helen King Alumni House continues to serve record numbers of visitors attending meetings, conferences, receptions, open houses and Alumni Association Board meetings. Alumni, faculty, staff, students and other visitors total over 10,000 visits each year at more than 225 events.

In addition, two guest suites, equipped with many of the conveniences of home or a fine hotel, offer accommodations near to the departments and research units University guests are visiting.

The Kentucky Alumnus has featured such alumni luminaries as Pulitzer Prize winner Angelo Henderson, network sportscaster Tom Hammond, and Thomas D. Clark, one of UKs most popular teachers and Kentuckys Historian Laureate at the age of 98.

The Alumni Association also produces other newsletters and brochures to keep alumni connected to and informed about University and alumni affairs.
